Labour appear to have been the major winners in Blackburn with Darwen, making 7 gains across the borough and tightening their grip on control of the council.

Kate Hollern, the Leader of Blackburn with Darwen Council was predicting the collapse of the LibDem vote when she tweeted “Liberals on melt down, feel sorry for the people who believed in them.”

Turnout has been at the 30% mark on average, but with Bastwell at a massive 66.56%.

At least three ward are showing the level of spoilt ballot papers to be over 5% of total votes cast with Shear Brow being over 10%! This seems very odd when some wards have a percentage of spoilt votes of less than 1%.

After the final result was announced the council now stands at Lab 45 (+7) Con 14 (-3) LD 5 (-1) Labour gaining 7 seats in total. Full analysis later.

Conservatives lose their deputy leader, Michael Law-Riding to Silvia Liddle in Roe Lee.

The “For Darwen” party failed to make an impact this year with leader Stephen Potter losing to Labour in Earcroft, marking the end of representation on the council.

Darwen Town Mayor Paul Browne held his Sudell seat along with current Blackburn with Darwen Mayor Karimeh Foster who held onto her seat in Whitehall.
